How Do CBD Patches Work?
CBD patches offer a different and sometimes more targeted way to consume CBD. For some people, the regularity and consistency required to get the best out of CBD when consumed orally is inconvenient, and if like me, you often forget to take CBD oil or capsules, patches might be a good option. Another benefit to using a CBD patch, is that they typically last longer. This can be of particular benefit to individuals that want to have a continual and sustained amount of CBD overnight.
In this article, we cover what CBD patches are, what transdermal means and how patches are different from other CBD products. We will also cover correct dosing, and the additional beneficial ingredients that go into the Love CBD Patches to make them unique.
What does transdermal mean?
Transdermal refers to the process of absorbing something through the skin for delivery into the bloodstream, typically via the use of an adhesive patch. This means that instead of entering the digestive system like edibles or passing through thin mucous membranes like CBD oils, CBD patch products allow the CBD to enter the bloodstream directly via the skin. The transdermal method allows for high bioavailability and efficacy as the CBD isn’t partially metabolised by the digestive system before entering the bloodstream.
How long do CBD patches take to work?
When CBD patches are applied to the skin, it typically takes around 60 minutes for cannabinoids to get into your blood stream. The slow-release and consistent absorption offered by patches is one of the advantages of a transdermal CBD product.
How many CBD patches should I use at once?
The Love CBD patches contain 45mg of CBD per patch and as a result, we wouldn’t recommend using more than one per day. Our patches are on the stronger end of the spectrum, and for lower strength products a user may require the application of more than one patch. We wouldn’t however recommend consuming more than 70mg of CBD in a patches or combination of other CBD product in a 24-hour period.
How are patches different to other CBD products?
Both CBD oils and CBD capsules require regular top-ups throughout the day. When beginning a CBD oil routine, we recommend taking 1 spray 2-3 times per day. CBD patches offer a much simpler alternative, as our high strength CBD patches last 24 hours. This makes them a much easier CBD option for anyone who is likely to forget to take their CBD oil or capsules.
Unlike oils and capsules consumed orally, which enter the bloodstream via the digestive tract or thin mucous membranes, CBD patches work via a transdermal delivery process. CBD Balm which is applied to the skin does not enter the bloodstream and instead remains within the skin, interacting with endocannabinoid receptors within the skins pores. With transdermal CBD products, the Cannabinoids fully penetrates the barrier and is absorbed into the bloodstream.
How are Love CBD patches different to other CBD patches?
The majority of CBD patch products available to buy in the UK only contain CBD isolate and ingredients to facilitate the patches transdermal function. Love CBD patches contain a broad spectrum CBD extract which contains other beneficial cannabis plant compounds, not solely CBD. This includes other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and polyphenols.
Love CBD patches have been fully dermatologically tested, to ensure that they are gentle on your skin and do not cause any unwanted adverse reactions. Our patches are also fully regulated and registered on the UK cosmetic portal. This is a requirement of all cosmetic products within the UK and is in place to safeguard the consumer.
Our CBD patches have also be designed to be discrete, and unlike most CBD patch products, are semi-transparent and can be worn without feeling like you are wearing an oversized plaster.
Additionally, Love CBD patches also contain other healthy ingredients which complement and enhance their efficacy. The additional ingredients are as follows:
Turmeric root
Turmeric is widely used in alternative medicine and contains curcumin, a natural compound with anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric can help with digestive issues like indigestion, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. It is rich in phytonutrients which are thought to help neutralize free radicals from pollution and sunlight. The active ingredient curcumin, may also help boost brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels, which may help promote happiness.
Green tea
Green tea has many potential health benefits, and has been widely used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Green tea is high in protective plant compounds called polyphenols and L-theanine, which in moderate consumption may help you feel calm, more relaxed and promote good sleep. Green tea may help with inflammation and relief from uncomfortable digestive symptoms. It also contains high levels of antioxidants and may help improve mental alertness and focus.
Pomegranate oil
Pomegranate also has a long history of use, including by the Egyptian and in Ayurvedic medicine. It contains ellagitannins, which are bioactive polyphenols that can help protect against inflammation. Pomegranates may also help soothe muscle soreness and improve recovery after exercise. Making our CBD patches ideally suited to an active lifestyle. Pomegranates have also been used to treat skin problems and wounds.
How can users find the right dose of transdermal CBD?
As with all CBD products, the best way for new user to begin using CBD patches, is to start with a low dose and gradually increase the dosage over time. Our Love CBD Patches are on the stronger end of the spectrum as already mentioned, however, 45mg of CBD per day should be both strong enough for a more experienced user to get a base line level, and a new CBD user to not be overwhelmed. If you find that 45mg per day is not enough CBD, we would recommend complementing the patches with either a CBD oil or capsules.
